Tiny cars like glittering insects
disappear into white clouds
and emerge again, traveling
those dusty creme ribbons.
I wonder what happened
to black velvet asphalt,
remembering the days when
roads were deadly black snakes;
looking down, I only see
peaceful, winding worms.
But then-
out of the shadows of gathered puffs of white,
I see rising a great two-laned roadway
(most likely an interstate from the size),
and it is black, black, black.
White trucks, like great trundling beetles, climb up
and glide down, and it is enough to satisfy me.

Just got back yesterday from Florida by plane (though it feels like today, I haven't slept yet), and man do I wish I'd had a pen and some paper to write down the original. D: I memorized bits of it, but the rest I filled in because I forgot. I won't be traveling without pen and paper again.
